Podcasting platform Riverside enters the newsletter publishing game

Riverside has launched a feature allowing users to convert their existing video and podcast recordings into newsletters directly within its application. The platform does not intend to compete directly with established email services like Mailchimp, Substack, Beehiiv, or Ghost. Instead, the company focuses on its existing user base by providing an AI tool that transforms spoken content into written format. Users can also compose newsletters from scratch without using the conversion function. This approach addresses the observation that speaking is often easier and more natural than writing from a blank page. Co-founder and CEO Nadav Keyson noted that ideas already exist within the conversation, so the tool helps turn a finished recording into newsletter-ready content with far less effort.

The update also introduces multi-camera recording support and the ability to add remote guests to sessions. New AI capabilities include drafting a first cut of a recording immediately after it finishes and generating hooks for social media platforms. An AI video enhancement feature trained on conversational podcasts claims to improve lighting, depth, and sharpness. This move follows a trend where platforms expand into alternative publishing avenues to diversify revenue. Substack launched a built-in recording studio in March, Beehiiv ventured into podcasting in April, and Mastodon announced it would allow users to publish posts as newsletters in June.

  • Riverside has raised over $60 million in funding.
  • The AI assistant creates content suitable for various social media channels.
  • Video enhancement tools are trained specifically on conversational podcast data.
