Meta now lets AI agents handle the boring parts of WhatsApp Business setup

Meta announced on Tuesday that developers can now instruct AI agents to configure WhatsApp Business messaging without manually navigating multiple internal tools. Previously, setting up the service required moving between the Developer Console, Business Manager, the API reference, and an editor. The new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP server allows coding agents such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, or ChatGPT to perform these tasks by simply chatting with the AI about requirements. The agent handles creating the business account, verifying phone numbers, registering for Cloud API access, and confirming Terms of Service compliance. This expansion adds the onboarding service to Meta’s existing collection of MCP servers used for ads and app monitoring. Companies can also use the system to generate messaging templates, edit existing ones, and monitor webhooks or failed verifications. Meta Social Technologies MCP remains available to search documentation and troubleshoot errors during the process.

This shift reduces the friction for businesses integrating WhatsApp into their workflows by offloading repetitive configuration steps to automated tools. It aligns with a wider trend where platforms like PayPal, Stripe, GitHub, and Slack offer similar MCP servers for secure AI interaction. The change does not alter the core messaging features but streamlines the administrative work required to access them.

* Agents handle account creation and phone verification automatically
* Template generation and editing are now conversational tasks
* Failed verifications and payment issues can be monitored by the agent
