In the race to build compelling personal AI agents, Google may have an underrated advantage: It already has all your emails.

At its Google I/O developer conference on Tuesday, the company announced a new agentic personal assistant called Gemini Spark. This tool was built from the base models of Gemini and Google’s Antigravity agentic harness.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai described Spark as the next evolution of smart digital assistants, noting that it uses agentic AI to handle long-term tasks with minimal oversight.

“It’s your personal AI agent that helps you navigate your digital life. It runs on dedicated virtual machines on Google Cloud seamlessly, so you don’t need to keep your laptop open to make sure it’s running,” Pichai told reporters during a pre-briefing of the product.

Spark is designed to be particularly valuable because of its integration with the larger Google suite of products. It will include out-of-the-box integrations with Gmail, Google Docs, and other Google Workspace products, streamlining the process for users without needing to set up connections separately.

  • Email Interaction: Users can email Spark directly through a dedicated Gmail address, allowing it to interact with the web via Chrome. On mobile, you’ll also be able to track the agent’s progress through Google’s new Android Halo system.
  • Data Integration: Spark is capable of pulling all relevant information from emails, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations to draft status updates or other communications for users.
  • Broad App Connectivity: Like other agentic assistants, Spark can be integrated into a wide range of services over MCP (Managed Compute Platform), with more connections expected in the months ahead.

The new tool is currently being tested at Google; it’s expected to become available for Google AI Ultra subscribers next week. Prior to this announcement, Google Labs’ Josh Woodward highlighted that small businesses can benefit from Spark by using it as a digital guardian, ensuring no important emails are missed.
