Gemini Spark is now running on Mac.

Google added the feature to its existing desktop app on Wednesday. The update brings real-time topic tracking and connections to Google Tasks and Google Keep.

Bringing the tool to macOS helps it compete with desktop AI agents like Claude Desktop, Microsoft Copilot, and OpenClaw. It can now work with files on the computer and will eventually handle remote tasks.

Google says users can soon assign multi-step tasks to Spark from their phones. This includes calling up the desktop agent to pull information from a file on a Mac.

For now, you can use Spark to sort and organise files. You can also use files on your computer as the source for a new Google Workspace doc or spreadsheet. Google suggests Spark can turn invoices on your computer into a budgeting worksheet.

Gemini Spark for macOS (beta) is available only to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. for the time being.

We noted last month that the lack of an integration with Google Keep was a major frustration. Short lists and other notes belong in apps like Google Keep, not in Google Docs. A vacation packing list is overkill for a word processor.

Google has now added support for Tasks and Keep. Spark also integrates with other third-party apps, including Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals.

That allows Spark to perform tasks like reserving tables, ordering weekly groceries, designing flyers, or booking apartment tours.

Gemini Spark can now track topics and react to events in real time. This improves performance for tasks involving sports scores, stock movements, or breaking news. It also means Spark will monitor social media, blogs, online shopping, and weather.

Google says it is rolling out support for the custom Model Context Protocol. This will let you connect your favourite apps directly into Spark to build an assistant better tailored to your needs.

What it means

Users with an AI Ultra subscription can finally run Google’s agent locally. The integration with Keep fixes a significant workflow gap. The app can now act on local files and connect to a wider range of services.
