Muse Voice, a feature allowing users to call and video chat with Meta’s consumer AI agent, is now available to everyone in the United States. The company announced the rollout on Thursday, following the initial introduction of the video chatting capability at Meta’s Connect developer conference in September.
This update relies on new AI models, specifically Muse Realtime Avatar and Muse Realtime Voice technology, to power the digital representation. While competitors offer voice chat, Meta’s version uses a cute, animated avatar nicknamed Jolly. Users can customise the avatar to resemble a person, animal, or other character. Meta states that anthropomorphising the agent in this way could make consumers feel more connected to their AI. As the avatar speaks, it will use subtle expressions and gestures that match the tone of the conversation. The real-time conversations are supported on mobile, web, and Mac, with later availability planned for AI Glasses and the upcoming Muse Charm hardware device.
- Customisation allows users to change the avatar to look like a person, animal, or other character.
- Meta’s chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, demonstrated the feature using a fluffy white dog avatar.
- Support is currently available on mobile, web, and Mac platforms.
