Wondering if your playlists contain AI-generated music? Deezer’s new free tool can tell you

For the independent artist, the composer, and the curator, the landscape of digital sound has shifted beneath our feet. Deezer has rolled out a free, browser-based utility that lets anyone verify whether their personal libraries contain synthetic tracks. This matters because the music you love might not be human-made, and you have a right to know.

The tool is accessible in 27 languages and works with 20 of the world’s leading streaming services. It runs on Deezer’s proprietary detection engine, arriving as pressure mounts for greater transparency regarding artificial intelligence in the creative industries.

Data gathered by Deezer and Ipos across eight nations indicates a growing unease among listeners. The survey found that 80% of respondents believe AI-generated music must be clearly labelled, while 73% want streaming platforms to tag these tracks explicitly.

Furthermore, the research suggests synthetic music is already more common than the average listener realises. Deezer reports that 43% of users importing playlists from rival services already possess AI music in their collections. This prevalence is a primary driver behind making the detection technology publicly available.

What the numbers mean for creators

“By detecting and tagging AI generated music over the past year and a half, Deezer has been at the forefront of transparency in music streaming,” says Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer. “No other company has followed our lead yet, so we decided to make it possible for everyone to check if their playlists include synthetic music, no matter which streaming platform they use.”

To use the service, visit the Deezer AI music detector webpage, choose your streaming provider, link your account, and authorise the scan. The system then produces a report detailing the presence of AI-generated tracks and allows you to share the findings.

Deezer’s wider strategy involves curbing the rapid influx of synthetic content. The company states it receives nearly 75,000 AI-generated tracks daily, which accounts for more than 44% of all uploads to its platform.

The detection tool has been operational since the start of 2025, tracking a consistent rise in fully synthetic content. In June 2025, Deezer became the first major streaming service to explicitly tag AI music, having since identified over 13.4 million such tracks.

Crucially, tracks flagged as AI-generated are automatically excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists.

“This is a first step in making sure that these tracks don’t dilute the royalty pool in any significant way,” the company explains. “Potential future actions, including updating our supplier policy and removing/ demonetising content need to be based on careful consideration.”

Key takeaways

  • Deezer has launched a free, cross-platform tool allowing users to scan their libraries for AI-generated music, regardless of their primary streaming service.
  • Survey data reveals 80% of listeners want clear labelling for AI music, and 43% of users already have synthetic tracks in their imported playlists.
  • Since becoming the first major platform to tag AI content in June 2025, Deezer has identified over 13.4 million synthetic tracks, which are now excluded from algorithmic and editorial promotion.
