SpaceX presented investors with a prototype of a slim smartphone designed to run xAI technology, according to The Wall Street Journal. The device aims to be thinner than an iPhone while operating on a custom system powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. Elon Musk confirmed the project is in early development stages, though no final build date has been announced. This move represents an attempt to create an “everything app” similar to Chinese super-apps like WeChat. The strategy also seeks to reduce reliance on Apple and Google, whose platforms currently host the xAI chatbot.
Competition in the AI hardware sector is intensifying as other firms pursue similar goals. OpenAI is reportedly developing its own AI smartphone focused on software agents that manage all user tasks. The company is also testing unusual form factors such as a pin, a smart speaker, or a digital voice recorder. These developments suggest a shift from cloud-dependent models to dedicated hardware solutions.
