“It doesn’t raise the bar in instrument amplification technology. It redraws it entirely”: Heritage Audio introduces the Mix Buddy

Heritage Audio has launched the Mix Buddy, a 19-input routing hub that functions as a dedicated mixer for synths, samplers, and drum machines without requiring a DAW connection.

The device expands on the company’s earlier Synth Buddy. Where the previous model offered a 10-to-1 passive switcher, this new unit acts as a central station for jamming and experimenting in the studio or on stage.

Users can connect a wide range of kit to the 19 inputs and mix them before flicking between channels. The eight outputs include one active DI with custom transformers, four stereo high-gain channels, and three stereo unity channels.

Heritage Audio states the goal was to mark a new milestone in instrument amplification technology with a heavy focus on tone. Each input channel can be switched between stereo and mono plus through settings to transform the sound.

The 19 inputs feature Heritage Audio’s JFET technology, derived from the Toshiba 2SK JFET series, described as extremely low noise and audiophile grade. Certain channels are designed for specific instruments.

The eight Hi Gain inputs suit passive basses and vintage sounds. Unity Inputs are better matched for modern synths, drum machines, and active basses.

Setup options allow users to choose between mic and line level. A transformer-less output is available for monitoring. There is also a single mic preamp channel with a JFET input stage offering up to 70dB of gain.

Effects routing is built into the design. Each aux send path has its own dedicated global send and return controls, enabling a chain of effects pedals in mono or stereo.

A full microphone preamp lets users transform their voice into an instrument within the mix. Vocals can be routed through the Mix Buddy’s AUX effects loop to send directly through connected pedals. A global mute switch cuts the noise entirely if needed.

What it means

Musicians gain a standalone mixing solution that handles routing, amplification, and effects. The setup removes the need to connect everything to a computer while maintaining control over tone and signal flow.

The distinction between Hi Gain and Unity inputs ensures specific gear types are processed correctly without manual tweaking.
