Introducing Playground: Create and play custom games

Google has launched Playground, an experimental platform that lets users build and play custom games simply by typing prompts, without writing a single line of code.

Build games with text

The tool uses a conversational interface to let you direct the game logic. You can start from scratch, remix existing starter prompts, or use guided support to refine your concept. Testing happens immediately after you define the idea.

Players can request specific adjustments to physics, rules, character designs, or environments. You maintain full control over the creative direction from the initial rough concept through to the final product.

Google provides a gallery of examples for users to reference while building.

Play and share anywhere

The platform hosts a growing collection of community-created games. Because it runs in a browser, you can access these titles on a phone or laptop.

Once a game is finished, you can keep it private, send a shareable link to friends and family, or publish it to the Playground Explore gallery for the wider community. Select genres support multiplayer gameplay and in-game leaderboards.

A Play Games profile lets you claim a custom handle, compete for top rankings, and follow specific creators to see their latest releases.

The gallery uses player ratings and activity data to highlight fresh and creative titles. Every published game undergoes safety screenings aligned with Community Guidelines, alongside standard user reporting tools.

Google lists a selection of available games in the Explore section.

Integration with Unity Spark

For dedicated creators, Playground will soon integrate with Unity Spark. This partnership adds professional-level mechanics, high-fidelity 3D capabilities, and the flexibility of the Unity runtime.

The combination aims to let users start with a simple text prompt and eventually build immersive experiences using Unity tools. These enhanced games remain available for everyone using Playground to play.

Unity Spark is currently in testing, with a closed beta arriving soon. Users can check out demo games at playground.google and learn more at unity.com/spark.

Launch details

Playground is an early experiment designed to make game creation more approachable and encourage everyday creativity. The platform will continue to evolve based on community feedback. It launches today for users in the U.S. aged 18 and over at playground.google. Access to creation features will roll out in tiers based on Google One membership.
