GForce has partnered with Sequential Circuits to release an official plugin emulation of the Prophet-5, marking the first time the legendary 1978 analogue polysynth has been officially digitised. Originally released by Sequential Circuits, the hardware became a trailblazer for polyphonic synthesis and is credited with shaping the sound of Genesis, Radiohead, Madonna, and Aphex Twin. GForce’s version aims to faithfully recreate the distinct character of the Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 hardware revisions, capturing the SSM warmth and punch of the Curtis filter designs found in the original instrument. While retaining all original functionality, the software includes modern enhancements such as newly redesigned X-Modifiers, dual layer architecture, and up to 10 voices per layer. It also features two selectable FX slots for effects like chorus, phaser, and distortion, alongside over 460 professionally designed presets that include the original 38 factory patches from 1978.
This collaboration matters because it bridges the gap between vintage hardware limitations and modern production workflows without sacrificing authenticity. The inclusion of MPE support, comprehensive MIDI CC mapping, and a patch browser with tagging functions addresses common frustrations with older emulations, making the sound accessible to a new generation of musicians. David Gibbons, CEO of Sequential, noted that GForce approached the instrument with real care, ensuring no one comes closer to capturing the character and musicality of the hardware. The release validates GForce’s reputation for accuracy in their virtual instrument emulations while expanding the reach of a classic piece of gear that defined an era of modern music. Priced at £99.99, the plugin is currently available for an introductory rate, offering producers a cost-effective way to access this iconic sound.
