Beatport has prohibited the upload of tracks generated entirely or predominantly by artificial intelligence within its DJ marketplace. The electronic music platform allows human-made compositions that incorporate AI assistance, provided these files are flagged accordingly. Enforcement relies on a detection tool supplied by partner Beatdapp, which filters content during the upload process and notifies rights holders of any rejections. This decision follows internal data showing that 60 percent of users refuse to play AI music in sets, while 77 percent express a preference for human-made tracks.
The move reflects a broader industry reaction to the rapid increase in synthetic content, with competitors like Deezer noting that nearly half of daily uploads are now machine-generated. CEO Matt Gralen distinguishes between tools that assist production and systems that replace human creators entirely. The policy aims to preserve the integrity of sets where DJs select music for live performance, a context where audience expectation heavily favours human input.
* Only 8 percent of Beatport users are currently open to playing AI-generated tracks
* 13 percent would consider AI music if artists received fair compensation
* Deezer reports that almost 50 percent of its daily uploads are artificial
