Instinct, the AI assistant recently valued at $2.5 billion, is launching personal email addresses for its users to handle account creation and management on their behalf.
Founder Noah Shinn announced the feature on Tuesday. The system creates and runs these accounts without cluttering the user’s inbox.
Shinn explained that the tool will manage sign-ups and maintenance for tasks requiring email access. This includes joining services, contacting businesses, and following up on items needing attention.
The update aims to reduce the need for user intervention during login or credential entry. Instinct partnered with 1Password last week to facilitate access to existing accounts.
For companies building customer relationships, an AI managing the account creates a layer of obscurity regarding who is being dealt with. Many users, however, may view this as a benefit given the fatigue of sharing personal details for simple tasks.
Instinct has reserved addresses for early adopters. Others can claim one at mail.instinct.com.
Shinn noted that users could forward emails to the address when the agent needs specific information. For example, a user asking Instinct to handle a product return could forward their order confirmation. The system would then contact support, provide details, ask if a return or replacement was preferred, and return the shipping label.
The bot can be added to group threads to track exchanged information or sent long threads for review. Users might ask what decisions remain, which tasks are due, or other questions.
Instinct will check back for input when required but otherwise acts autonomously.
This feature joins recent updates aimed at improving capabilities. It follows the partnership with 1Password and a new location-sharing function. The location tool lets Instinct understand current position to find nearby businesses, restaurants, or map routes. Users can also query location history to find where they parked or which restaurant they visited last month.
Instinct also partnered with Stripe in August to improve payment experiences. This allows the agent to book trips, classes, and appointments, and make purchases.
What it means
Users now have a dedicated channel for the agent to operate independently. This shifts the workflow from a chat-based interface to a direct email interaction, allowing the system to manage complex multi-step processes like returns or account setups without constant human supervision.
