Microsoft has opened preorder for the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box at a price of $5,999, with delivery scheduled for November. This device costs more than the Nvidia DGX Spark mini PC launched last year, a gap partly explained by current shortages of RAM and other components. The chassis is a flat slab of 3D-printed anodized aluminium that functions as a heatsink and mimics the vent design on the Xbox Series X console. It launches alongside the Surface Laptop Ultra and runs on Nvidia’s Arm-based RTX Spark platform with 128GB of unified memory.
The high memory capacity and 100-watt thermal envelope support heavy local AI training without needing a cloud connection. Nvidia’s Tensor cores are integrated directly into the system to accelerate specific workloads. The unit targets developers who require immediate access to powerful hardware rather than waiting for external services.
- 128GB of unified memory for large model loading
- 100-watt thermal envelope for sustained performance
- Direct integration with Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform
