OpenAI acquires NextSlide to bring AI-generated presentations into ChatGPT

OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, the startup that converted prompts and documents into editable presentations. Founder Ahmed Beshry now works on the product side at OpenAI while the NextSlide website displays only his farewell note. Neither side disclosed the purchase price, though Beshry noted the deal closed earlier this year via a LinkedIn post. This marks Beshry’s second exit after previously co-founding Caper AI, which sold to Instacart for $350 million in 2021. TechCrunch first reported the transaction.

The move follows a series of small team acquisitions by OpenAI, including Sky, Roi, Context.ai, Crossing Minds, and Statsig. In June, OpenAI also acquired Ona, a German startup based in Kiel formerly known as Gitpod, whose team has since worked on Codex. OpenAI was already testing agents in summer 2025 that generate presentations and spreadsheets directly in the chat, compatible with Microsoft formats but independent of Microsoft apps. NextSlide joins this string of purchases as the company integrates third-party capabilities into ChatGPT. The timing of feature integration remains an open question.
