Mesh, Automattic’s CRM for everyone, comes to Android

Mesh, Automattic’s personal relationship manager, is now available on Android devices.

The app lets users view their professional and personal networks, attach notes to contacts, and set reminders for follow-ups. On Android, the software integrates with split-screen mode and pop-up views so you can access it while checking email or messages. Keyboard shortcuts work on foldables and tablets. Home screen widgets match your wallpaper using Material You styling, and data syncs across devices in real time.

Automattic plans to link Mesh more closely with Beeper, its messaging app that connects users across WhatsApp, Instagram, Signal, Messenger, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, Google Messages, and others. The two apps already share some functionality. You can draft a message to a Beeper contact from Mesh or click deep links in the app to open a profile. Future updates will add AI tools to help manage personal relationships.

“We’re thinking a lot about how can AI help you be a better friend and have better work and personal relationships?,” Mesh co-founder Zachary Hamed told TechCrunch earlier this spring. “We have users who have ten-, twenty-, or fifty-thousand connections across multiple social media apps, across their work products. It’s an impossible task to think and be conscientious with you, with each of those people, by yourself,” he added.

Nexus AI is currently in early access. Users can ask questions such as who they know at a specific company, who lives in a certain city, or who has expertise in a particular topic. The company is also testing voice-based, hands-free interaction and improved business card scanning.

Personal data stored in Mesh is not shared or used for ad targeting, the company states. The product relies on subscriptions. It is free for up to 1,000 contacts, with higher tiers for unlimited contacts and extra features. There are no announcements regarding a bundled subscription with Beeper or other Automattic products at this time.

Currently, around 70% of Mesh customers use the app for business purposes. Mesh co-founder Matthew Achariam says the ideal user is an executive managing a large team or someone with a tight network to maintain. The company still considers the consumer use case. “The beauty of [serving business users] is that the same things they’re using apply to every individual consumer. So every feature that we think about has to apply to both,” he says.

Mesh (formerly Clay) for Android will launch on Google Play for phones, tablets, and foldables as a free download with in-app purchases.

What it means

People making things or managing work on Android now have a dedicated tool to track relationships without switching between multiple apps. The integration with platform features means you can keep your network organised while using other tools. The upcoming AI features aim to help users find connections and manage large contact lists more easily, though the company insists on keeping personal data private.
