Firefox’s Smart Window promises a better AI browser

Mozilla Firefox has updated its Smart Window AI browsing mode to allow chat responses to cite current web sources via a partnership with Exa. The feature now automatically suggests tab groups and displays visual previews of previously visited pages when users search their history using natural language. A live demonstration showed the system sorting links to retrieve items like running shoes viewed last week while pulling images from those specific sites. The suggested groups can also identify and close duplicate tabs to reduce clutter.

These updates address practical browser management tasks that often require manual effort. By linking AI responses directly to live information and past browsing data, the tool reduces the friction of verifying sources or reorganising open windows. Users gain immediate visual context without leaving the conversation thread.

* Chat responses include clickable source links from current web information
* Natural language queries return visual previews of past browsing sessions
* The system automatically detects duplicate tabs for easy closure
