Everything new coming to Meta’s AI agent Muse

Meta has announced a fresh wave of features for its personal AI agent, Muse, at its annual Connect event in Menlo Park on Wednesday.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the company is committing fully to the project, describing it as the organisation’s largest consumer AI initiative to date.

Although the software launched in early September, the social networking giant is now pushing to embed the agent deeper into daily routines. Muse connects to existing apps and services, including email and calendars. It will run across a user’s devices and digital accounts, and it is set to appear on Meta AI glasses if the user chooses.

The agent relies on Muse Spark, a multimodal AI model designed for autonomous work. Meta describes the tool as a more accessible alternative to competitor offerings, allowing users to automate busy tasks immediately.

“The centerpiece of our vision for what we’re building is Muse,” Zuckerberg said during a keynote address wearing khakis and a black T-shirt printed with the phrase “Building is My love Language”. “In the coming years, I expect that Muse is going to grow into the personal superintelligence that billions of people around the world are going to use to accomplish their goals and improve their lives.”

Zuckerberg also stated the agent will generate revenue for users and Meta eventually. The company plans to offer Muse free for a large volume of tokens, then charge a small fee on transactions over time.

“We’re standing behind this by making Muse free for a huge number of tokens, with the expectation that over time we will profit by taking a small fee from transactions,” he said.

Muse gets its own digital avatar

Users will soon be able to create a distinct digital avatar for their agent and video chat with it in real time. A new model, Muse Realtime Avatar, powers this feature.

Meta intends to give its previously faceless software a face, body, and voice to make interactions feel more personal. The company demonstrated the feature on stage at Connect. Users can hold live conversations with the avatar, assigning tasks and asking questions.

Muse will soon be active in Meta smart glasses

The agent will integrate with Meta’s line of smart glasses. Users can speak to their glasses to communicate with the agent. A wake word activates the system, which can guide users through workouts, log meals, book appointments, and assist with purchasing products they see.

Meta says the agent will operate in the background and check in once tasks are complete.

A specific launch date has not been set, though the company expects availability within the coming months.

Soon, you’ll be able to let Muse run your Mac

Meta is bringing computer work capabilities to Mac. This update allows users to delegate tasks to the agent. Like other popular AI agents from OpenAI and Anthropic, Muse will be able to operate any app on a user’s desktop.

“You can have it help you run your small business, or just get work done for you,” Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang said Wednesday during the keynote. “You can walk away from your computer and it keeps working for you on all the jobs you lined up.”

Muse will get its own email address

Since the agent works in the background, it requires its own email address. Alexandr Wang announced the feature is in development and will be available soon, without a precise timeline.

Users will be able to add Muse to an email thread or forward emails from the agent for it to handle.

Shopping partnerships and connectors galore

Meta has secured partnerships with companies such as Stripe and Shopify, indicating the company views Muse as a key shopping tool.

Muse can access the entire Shopify product catalog agentically and use Lync and Shop Pay to buy items online. Wang noted Meta has also added further support for payments with PayPal.

The company announced new partnerships with retailers including Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair. Muse will connect with these retail apps as well as Expedia and Instacart. Other connectors include GitHub, Granola, and Notion.

Wang noted the company wants Muse to connect with small businesses too. Meta recently opened its platform to allow developers to build their own connectors. The company received more than 1,500 applications in less than a week. “I think this could be a generational opportunity to start building for a new platform as it takes off, and the response so far has been really great,” he said.

What it means

For people using the software, the change is a shift from a text-based assistant to one that acts like a physical presence. Users can now see and hear an avatar representing their agent, making interactions feel more human. The ability to run tasks on a Mac means users can leave their computers and have the agent manage work autonomously. Integration with smart glasses allows hands-free control for daily activities like shopping or logging meals.
