ByteDance has launched Dramagic, a software platform designed to generate short dramas and videos through an artificial intelligence pipeline. The tool handles script analysis, character creation, storyboarding, and video previews while allowing multiple users to collaborate simultaneously with built-in consistency checks. Access to the service is provided through BytePlus, the company’s enterprise platform.
This release aligns with a sharp increase in content volume within the Chinese market. The China Netcasting Services Association reported that 128,000 short dramas were published in the first quarter of 2026, representing triple the output of the previous year. Approximately 95 percent of this volume was created using artificial intelligence. Tsinghua University professor Shen Yang estimates the cost of one minute of AI video ranges between $90 and $120, roughly one tenth of traditional production expenses. The industry currently employs 690,000 people directly, yet some performers are reportedly forced to surrender their voice and likeness to AI tools before losing their jobs.
