Anthropic has combined its separate Chat and Cowork interfaces into a single product called Claude. This change addresses user complaints that the previous split felt clunky and made it unclear which environment to use for specific tasks. The update also introduces Claude Docs and Claude Slides, allowing users to create and export documents and presentations directly within the chat window. Existing design features are now integrated into conversations, and background tasks continue running in the cloud even when a laptop is closed. The rollout begins with Pro and Max plans, with Team and Free tiers following later. Enterprise administrators receive at least 30 days’ notice before the change affects their accounts.
This consolidation simplifies the workflow by removing the need to switch between overlapping tools for quick questions or larger projects. It aligns the platform more closely with how users actually work, reducing friction around interface selection. The addition of native document and slide creation expands the utility of the core chat interface without requiring external applications.
