Agility Robotics has announced Digit 5, a new humanoid robot designed to operate alongside human workers without the need for physical safety fences. The machine identifies people through its sensors and artificial intelligence, then either halts or moves out of the way while providing visual and audio warnings. This capability marks a significant step for Agility, which is the first partner for Nvidia’s Halos safety platform for robotics. The company notes that Digit 4 previously passed an independent OSHA safety review on a production line.
Digit 5 lifts up to 22.7 kg, representing a forty percent increase over its predecessor. Its battery charges in nine minutes for ninety minutes of runtime, allowing more than twenty hours of work per day. Swappable grippers enable the robot to handle various tasks, from moving bins to loading machines. The unit stands 1.81 m tall and weighs 129 kg. Existing customers include GXO, Amazon, and Schaeffler. Agility reports orders worth more than $300 million, with first deliveries scheduled for early 2027 in the EU. Production takes place in Salem, Oregon, in a facility capable of making up to 10,000 units per year.
