Exposed Claude chats and creations show up in Google search results
A Google search query reveals a large number of public Claude conversations and artifacts. Users who shared these items to send to friends or colleagues did not realise that search engines are indexing the links. The results include private data such as cryptocurrency wallet keys, meeting notes, and personal addresses.
One specific search string surfaced these chats. A Reddit post claims the query exposed API keys and login credentials. At the time of writing, 404 Media found no results when testing the query on Google and DuckDuckGo. The search appears to have been fixed.
What it means
Users can change privacy settings in the Claude app to stop their chats from being public. This stops search engines from indexing the links. However, the risk remains that someone may have already saved the data before the links were removed from search. If you have the direct link, you can still view the content even if it disappears from Google.
