Model releases and safety
After initial safety testing, Gemini 4 Argon became available for complex coding, financial analysis, and legal workflows. It is accessible via Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, Google Cloud, Search, and the Gemini app. The model also powers physical-world reasoning through Gemini 4 Argon for Robotics.
Two weeks after the Argon launch, Google announced Gemini 4 Carbon. This model features state-of-the-art cybersecurity and long-horizon capabilities. It is currently in pre-release testing with the U.S. government and a subset of trusted cyber defenders via the Fairwind Program. Google is refining safety guardrails and expanding partner testing before a broader launch to developers, businesses, and consumers.
Simulation and verification
Genie 4 offers real-time interactive world simulation with native audio. It provides unprecedented realism, advanced physics, and lifelike human movement. Users can steer scenes as they unfold using natural language. The tool advances the ability to create safe training environments for robots and AI agents.
Google is expanding SynthID Detector globally in English. The tool allows anyone to check whether an image, video, or audio clip was generated with AI. Google has already watermarked more than 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio with SynthID. The detector works alongside built-in verification tools in Search, Chrome, and the Gemini app, which handle over a million requests each day. It also identifies AI content from industry partners including OpenAI, NVIDIA, Kakao, and Apple.
Mobile security and hardware
Android is introducing an opt-in Enhanced protection mode in Google Messages. This feature uses Private AI Compute and cloud Gemini models to catch sophisticated conversational scams. It is paired with expanded chat alerts and stronger call-forwarding and screen-sharing defenses. AI-powered Scam Detection in Phone by Google and Google Messages already flags more than 5 million suspected scam calls and texts every month.
Google Fitbit Edge is the company’s newest fitness tracker. It features a slim design and up to seven days of battery life. The device pairs precision GPS and automatic workout recognition across 50+ activities with personalized guidance from the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach. Google also rolled out more than 55 updates across Google Health and Fitbit Air, including effortless photo meal logging, new Metal Mesh bands, and Health Guardian features that monitor long-term blood pressure and insulin resistance trends.
Healthcare research
Researchers from Google and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center evaluated the AMIE conversational medical AI system in real-world primary care clinic visits. The system gathered patient histories and generated clinical summaries before urgent care appointments. AMIE helped clinicians prepare in 75% of cases and matched doctors’ final differential diagnoses 90% of the time. This was Google’s first publication in the main journal of The Lancet.
Creation tools
Playground launched as an experimental gaming platform. Users can build, remix, and share custom single- and multiplayer games from simple text prompts without writing code. Android users can now build personal AI apps with Google AI Studio and install them directly on their phones through Google Play. Music producers can create custom instruments and audio plugins in Google Flow Music.
For World Teachers’ Day, Google highlighted how educators use Gemini to personalise lessons and spark critical thinking. A new global idea search launched in partnership with TED allows teachers to search for concepts. Students can study smarter with Gemini Notebook using interactive learning overviews and custom quizzes. New co-creation controls let users shape Slide Decks and Video Overviews before they generate.
Privacy and satellite research
EmbeddingGemma 2 is an open embedding model engineered on the Gemma 4 architecture with 740 million parameters. It maps code, images, video, and audio into a single unified space on everyday devices. Its modular design cuts local vector storage by up to 6x. Developers can use it to build private, offline apps that find specific video clips from voice memos or search hours of audio with a text query.
Project Suncatcher returned the first AI response generated by a data center-class Google TPU in space. After launching TPUs into low-Earth orbit, the prototype satellite beamed back a haiku composed onboard by Gemma 4. This confirms the hardware survived launch and can run AI workloads in orbit. The team is testing how the chips handle radiation and thermal extremes while using space’s abundant solar energy as part of a long-term goal for scalable orbital AI infrastructure.
Scientific breakthroughs
At the annual Research@ 2026 event, Google shared new ways to put advanced AI in the hands of scientists. Demonstrations included an experimental Geospatial Reasoning agent, public access to the Deep Review tool for technical papers, and top-ranked flu hospitalization forecasting. Google teams are also advancing planetary research by mapping the world’s forest types. Google.org awarded $36 million to 17 organizations accelerating scientific breakthroughs with AI.
Google Quantum AI demonstrated that “magic state cultivation” works in practice on the Willow quantum processor. This technique cuts errors roughly 40-fold compared to uncultivated states. Producing high-purity magic states previously threatened to consume up to 95% of a quantum computer’s resources. This breakthrough clears a major hurdle on the path to large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers.
What it means
The updates focus on expanding capabilities while maintaining strict safety protocols. Gemini 4 Carbon is not yet available to the general public, limiting immediate impact for most users. However, the rollout of SynthID Detector and Enhanced protection mode in Google Messages provides practical benefits for verifying content and avoiding mobile scams. The Fitbit Edge and new creation tools offer immediate utility for fitness tracking and hobbyists. Scientific and satellite milestones confirm long-term infrastructure goals but do not change current consumer product behaviour.
