EMR Music Group – Tape 16
Tape 16 is a brand-new DAW designed to bring a classic tape approach to computer-based production. It features a unique arrangement system using transport controls instead of a timeline, with limited editing capabilities that require recording full takes or punch-ins.
Users can adjust the stereo image through various modules like Spread and Clean, ensuring a wide and focused mix. Tape 16 also includes built-in tape emulation for an authentic analogue sound.
Tape 16 is available from EMR Music Group at $29 (intro pricing, usually $59).
LANDR – Strata & Horizon
LANDR has introduced two hybrid instruments: Horizon, blending analogue synth samples with organic string performances; and Strata, which combines real guitar recordings with granular synthesis for complex movement.
Both plugins come with sub-modules for additional shaping, along with simple macro controls for hands-on playability. They are available from LANDR as part of its subscription plans at £63 each or together in the Horizon and Strata bundles.
Mastering The Mix – Stereovault
Stereovault is an intelligent plugin designed for precise control over the stereo field. It analyzes incoming audio and suggests a smart preset based on the signal, allowing users to tailor the stereo image through six modules including Spread and Clean.
The plugin also offers multiband processing capabilities across each module and features like real-time Scope monitoring to avoid destructive phasing. Stereovault is available from Mastering The Mix for £59.
MixWave – Benson Monarch
Benson Monarch recreates the sound of a British amp design using component-level modelling techniques, offering controls such as volume, tone, and reverb. Impulse responses of the original cabinet are included for further tonal control.
The plugin also features a collection of Benson Amps’ effects pedals, including the Florist Dynamic Modulator, Benson Delay, Germanium Boost, Benson Preamp, Germanium Fuzz, and Tall Bird spring reverb. The Monarch Collection is available from MixWave at intro pricing of $129 (VAT included).
Toontrack – Drumology EZX
Drumology EZX brings together four kits from Jeremy Stacey’s personal collection, capturing the evolution of the drumkit across different eras. Each kit is recorded at Livingston Studios in London with a session drummer and a wide range of mic sources.
The flagship Monarch amp model includes controls for volume, tone, reverb, and a toggle between British/American voicing styles. Users can place virtual microphones around the speaker to capture different tonal characteristics. Drumology EZX is available from Toontrack for €89.
