Spotify will begin labelling AI-generated artists and excluding their tracks from personal recommendations starting in mid-September. The streaming service plans to introduce an “AI Persona” badge on profiles that do not represent real humans. While artists can voluntarily disclose their status now, Spotify will also employ human reviewers and automated tools to verify if a profile appears to depict a photorealistic AI identity. The algorithm will then filter these accounts out of daily mixes and radio stations. This policy shift addresses growing consumer confusion regarding the authenticity of digital content. Listeners often assume recommended music comes from human musicians, leading to unexpected experiences when encountering synthetic voices. By creating a visual distinction, the platform aims to maintain transparency about the origin of the audio. This approach also seeks to protect human artists from competing directly with unlimited, low-cost synthetic alternatives in discovery feeds. The change reflects a broader industry move to clarify the boundaries between human and machine creation without banning the technology entirely.
- Badges will appear on artist profiles across the app interface
- Verification combines human review with automated identity checks
- AI tracks remain available for direct search but disappear from algorithms
