Spotify Premium users in the US, Ireland, and Sweden can now converse with the app to select music and audio content on iOS and Android devices.

The feature launches as a beta for users aged 18 and older speaking English. Spotify states the product may not always function perfectly and relies on user feedback for improvements.

This update extends the interactive experience beyond the existing AI DJ voice assistant. Users can now engage with the app via the Home and Now Playing screens on mobile devices.
Interaction happens through typing or speech, allowing back-and-forth dialogue to determine what plays next. The system can also discuss listening history, explain favourite tracks, and provide deeper context on podcasts or audiobooks.
Specific queries might include the inspiration behind a song, album release dates, or recommendations for new artists based on current streams. Users can also ask when they first played a specific track or explore recent genre trends.
How to use it
Spotify suggests prompts such as “play some artists I haven’t heard before.” Users can refine these requests with follow-ups, like naming a specific artist or limiting results to recent tracks.
Further instructions might include asking for a “more upbeat” selection. The feature allows users to save songs, add them to the queue, or follow an artist directly through the chat.
