Roland has launched Melody Flip, a new generative AI tool designed specifically for music producers rather than casual listeners. The software functions as a plugin for digital audio workstations and provides access to approximately 250 palettes containing themed musical ideas sorted by genre. Users can request specific combinations of melody, chord progression, bassline, or drums from scratch. Alternatively, the system accepts a reference track to generate melodic concepts based on that audio. Unlike competitors such as Suno or Udio, Melody Flip does not output finished songs with vocals or complete arrangements.
This approach addresses a specific workflow need by offering raw material for human refinement instead of polished final products. The tool integrates directly into existing production environments where musicians already manage their own mixing and arrangement. By limiting output to instrumental components, Roland avoids the common issue of AI-generated vocals sounding unnatural or indistinguishable from human performance.
