Proton staff received an internal email on Monday stating they will undergo re-interviews regarding their use of artificial intelligence, with the process determining whether employees retain their positions. The message, obtained by 404 Media, declares these assessments are consequential and may lead to changes in roles, responsibilities, or continued employment. CEO Andy Yen has driven the adoption of AI tools like Lumo throughout the organisation and has already interviewed over 40 senior leaders. This initiative now extends to the wider workforce between 4 November and 11 November. Interviewers will come from a separate pool of leaders who demonstrate strong AI capability rather than reporting directly to the staff member’s manager. The email specifies that not every employee will face this review and that individual outcomes will be communicated separately once decisions are finalised.
The move signals a direct shift in how the company evaluates talent, prioritising staff who can translate AI capabilities into product improvements and new working methods. By requiring curiosity, judgment, and urgency, Proton aims to align its workforce with its strategic push toward AI-centred execution. This approach creates uncertainty for employees whose current workflows may not yet reflect the new expectations set by leadership.
- Re-interviews occur between 4 and 11 November.
- Interviewers are selected from an external pool of leaders.
- Outcomes will be communicated directly to each individual.
