OpenAI launches Decisions API that reduces complex evaluations to yes, no, or pick one

OpenAI has introduced the Decisions API, a new tool designed to simplify complex evaluations into binary yes or no answers or single selections from a fixed list. The service currently operates in public beta using the gpt-6-luna model and processes text or images at roughly ten times the speed of the Responses API. Input tokens cost $0.10 per million while output tokens remain free, with general availability scheduled for later this year. The platform supports zero-data retention and meets HIPAA compliance requirements for users in the US and Europe. It targets specific workflows such as detecting damage in photographs, routing customer inquiries automatically, and classifying documents by category.

This launch represents a practical shift toward specialised decision-making models rather than general purpose generation. The pricing structure removes cost barriers for high-volume classification tasks where speed and binary accuracy are more critical than nuanced reasoning. Simultaneously, OpenAI has consolidated its paid API tiers into three levels named Build, Launch, and Grow. These tiers allow organisations to move up automatically when their total credit purchases reach specific thresholds of $500, $5,000, and $200,000.

  • Supported model is gpt-6-luna only
  • Output tokens incur no charge
  • Automatic tier escalation based on spend
