OpenAI doubles usage limits on Pro plans as competition with Anthropic heats up

OpenAI has doubled usage limits for Work and Codex quotas on its Pro 100 and Pro 500 subscription tiers. The Pro 200 plan received a similar adjustment to its lower quota after users objected to a proposed reduction. Existing customers receive these changes automatically, while new subscriptions include the updated allowances immediately. OpenAI notes that doubling a quota does not equate to twice the number of completed tasks because consumption depends on the specific model, task type, and settings used. The Plus plan remains unchanged during this update. The expanded limits for the new Dots feature also remain active, though Dot usage is tracked separately from standard quotas.

This adjustment reflects a strategic response to intensifying competition as Anthropic prepares for its initial public offering. Both companies are aggressively pursuing dominance in the B2B artificial intelligence market. OpenAI states it will continue shipping more efficient models, such as the recently released Terra and Sol versions of its 6.1 series, to increase usable capacity without necessarily increasing raw token limits. These efficiency gains allow the company to offer more value within existing constraints.
