British AI neocloud Nscale is acquiring software startup Anyscale for $1.65 billion as it seeks to control more of the artificial intelligence compute stack. The deal brings together Nscale’s infrastructure capabilities with Anyscale’s workload management tools, which were originally built around the open-source Project Ray framework. Anyscale has since expanded its services to include scaling for large language model training, data curation, and inferencing. By combining these assets, Nscale aims to co-design the software layer and the underlying infrastructure more effectively than it could alone. Anyscale will continue to operate under its own brand while its roughly 200 employees join the new company.
