Neocloud Lambda secures $1B in debt to buy more chips

Neocloud Lambda has secured $1 billion in private, short-dated debt to purchase Nvidia chips for lease to Microsoft. Bloomberg reports the deal was arranged by JP Morgan Chase and signals the company expects to deploy the hardware quickly to generate revenue for repayment. This follows a May facility of the same size and a recent $926 million loan for Nvidia GB300 GPUs destined for a direct deployment with Nvidia. The funding occurs as Lambda pursues a $3 billion pre-IPO round after raising $1.5 billion in venture capital last November at a $5.43 billion valuation. Globally, banks and tech firms have raised over $400 billion in AI-related debt in 2026 so far, placing Lambda within a broader trend of leveraging finance to build compute capacity.

The move highlights how cloud providers are shifting from organic growth to debt-fuelled expansion to meet immediate client demand. Short-dated structures allow Lambda to match borrowing costs with the rapid cash flow from leasing contracts, reducing long-term balance sheet risk. This approach lets the firm scale hardware acquisition without waiting for equity markets to validate its valuation.

  • Debt terms are short-dated to align with lease revenue cycles.
  • Total AI-related debt raised globally exceeds $400 billion in 2026.
  • Lambda previously secured $1.5 billion in venture capital last November.
