India’s MoEngage bets that the future of marketing is millions of AI agents

Indian customer engagement firm MoEngage has acquired San Francisco startup Aampe in an all-cash deal worth tens of millions of dollars. The transaction moves around 20 Aampe employees into the MoEngace workforce, bringing the total headcount to approximately 820 people. Aampe assigns a dedicated AI agent to each customer, enabling brands to personalise messaging based on individual behaviour rather than traditional audience segments. MoEngage co-founder Raviteja Dodda stated the acquisition will help the company win enterprise clients currently using rival platforms such as Salesforce and Adobe. Recent data shows MoEngage has successfully migrated several large accounts from Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Adobe Experience Cloud. The deal arrives as software vendors race to embed AI deeper into applications, shifting focus from content generation to autonomous decision-making regarding targeting, messaging, and timing. Aampe currently serves brands including Swiggy, Grab, and Taxfix, some of which already utilise MoEngage’s core platform. The startup raised about $28 million across three funding rounds before joining the Indian firm. MoEngage recently secured $280 million through primary and secondary transactions. This acquisition signals a strategic pivot toward agent-based automation within the marketing stack.
