Grok AI is reportedly a porn platform now, with over half its traffic tied to adult content

The Information reports that more than half of all traffic to Grok AI now directs users toward pornographic images, videos, and roleplay chats. Two former xAI employees state that even the coding model receives frequent requests for adult material. SpaceX filings indicate the system generated 10 billion images and 2 billion videos per month in the first quarter of 2026. This focus emerged after X users spent weeks creating explicit images of real people, an episode that reportedly embarrassed researchers who joined the company to contribute to serious AI work. xAI waited for regulatory pressure before acting on the issue. By now, the co-founders have departed and the company is renting its GPU resources to Anthropic while actively expanding image and video generation capabilities that competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google have avoided.

The situation highlights a divergence in how different companies approach unrestricted generative models. While other firms impose strict safety filters, this approach prioritises volume and user demand over content moderation. The departure of leadership suggests internal disagreements may have reached a breaking point. Key observations include:

  • Over 50 per cent of traffic is now adult content
  • SpaceX reported 10 billion monthly image generations
  • Current leadership has left the company
