Microsoft concluded its recent San Francisco event with concrete pricing and availability details for the Surface Laptop Ultra, the device powered by Nvidia’s RTX Spark Arm-based chip. The machine launches on 16 October with a starting price of $2,599 for a configuration containing an 8-core CPU, 24GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. It features built-in magnetic USB-C charging, removing the proprietary Surface Connect port previously required for power. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a mini PC for developers, is available for preorder at $5,999 with shipping scheduled for November. Updates to Windows include “Hybrid Intelligence,” allowing Copilot to use local files to execute actions, alongside a new search experience enabling quick commands directly from the search bar.
The announcements solidify the shift away from proprietary charging standards while addressing the high cost of Nvidia-powered hardware. The move to standard USB-C charging aligns the Surface line with broader industry practices, reducing friction for users switching devices. The pricing positions the laptop firmly as a premium workstation rather than a mass-market consumer product.
