ElevenLabs has released Music v2.5 for its ElevenMusic service, offering access via the application and API with both free and Pro subscription tiers. The update claims generated songs now sound fuller and more natural, a claim supported by a blind test where 47,885 comparison pairs showed listeners preferred the new version. Preferences were highest for R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Rock, and orchestral styles. Users retain rights to their tracks, though the free tier allows only five lossless downloads daily while the Pro tier permits 400 per month. Commercial use is permitted based on industry and purpose, provided the free tier includes attribution. Downloads based on other artists’ songs remain blocked, and imitating existing musicians is not allowed.
The release sits alongside a recent licensing deal with Universal Music Group, which the company states applies only to future products rather than Music v2.5. ElevenLabs says it trained its existing models on licensed stems and music without detailing the specific data sources. This approach distinguishes it from competitor Suno, which faced legal action for training on copyrighted content without consent. Suno also released new models this week.
