Chrome’s AI-powered Autofill can now dig through your Gmail to fill out forms

Google has updated Chrome to allow its AI-driven autofill system to access Gmail data for completing online forms. Starting this week for US desktop users and via the mobile Gemini app, the browser will scan email contents to extract specific details such as flight confirmation numbers, membership IDs, tracking codes, and billing information. This change extends Google’s Personal Intelligence suite, which previously enabled the Gemini assistant to retrieve facts from connected apps to answer queries. The system now prioritises practical utility by surfacing these extracted values directly into input fields when a user visits a website requiring them.

The update primarily serves to reduce friction during data entry while encouraging continued adoption of Google’s browser and ecosystem. By automating the retrieval of scattered information, the feature aims to match the convenience of Apple’s automatic SMS code detection. Users retain full control over the function, as they can disable the enhanced autofill option within Chrome settings. Google confirms that sensitive data processed for this purpose remains encrypted. The rollout targets desktop and mobile environments to ensure consistency across devices.

  • Feature is currently limited to users in the United States.
  • Access is available on desktop Chrome and the iOS and Android Gemini apps.
  • Data extraction is restricted to information found within the user’s Gmail account.
