Anthropic states its total addressable market exceeds $30 trillion in preparation for a potential public listing later this year. The Wall Street Journal reports the company calculates this figure by assuming artificial intelligence models will perform every task currently done by humans. This theoretical maximum revenue would surpass the $28.5 trillion valuation SpaceX claimed earlier in May.
The scale of these numbers invites scrutiny when compared to existing financial data. The 191 technology firms listed in the S&P 1500 generated a combined $2.4 trillion in revenue last year according to FactSet. Anthropic expects its own revenue to reach between $190 billion and $200 billion by 2028, having doubled to $11.6 billion in the second quarter alone. The company aims to raise up to $100 billion and seeks a valuation of approximately $2 trillion.
