Amazon Prime Video has activated an artificial intelligence tool that synchronises an actor’s mouth movements with translated dialogue for the German series Maxton Hall. This feature is currently restricted to the English dub of that specific title, though the company intends to roll it out to further programmes later. The technology combines machine learning with visual effects to align lip gestures with the new audio track, ensuring the performance appears natural rather than disjointed. Meta and YouTube have previously introduced similar capabilities for creators, allowing them to generate dubbed content with matching lip sync for their own videos. Prime Video is now applying this same methodology to professional streaming content to improve the viewing experience for non-German speakers.
The move addresses a long-standing issue in international distribution where dubbed audio often creates a visual disconnect for audiences. By fixing the lip movement, the service reduces the cognitive load required to process the translation and maintains immersion. This approach also lowers the barrier for viewers who prefer to watch content in their native language without relying on subtitles.
* Currently limited to the English dub of Maxton Hall
* Uses AI combined with visual effects for alignment
* Planned expansion to additional future titles
