President Donald Trump dismissed recent worries about AI safety as a series of hoaxes created by the Radical Left Dumocrats to destroy the country.
On Saturday, he posted on Truth Social that the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ is inaccurate and ineloquent. He then launched a poll asking followers to vote on a replacement name: Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence, or Supreme Intelligence. The poll was still running when this article was written.
Hours later, Trump claimed that efforts to decimate or destroy AI are part of a long list of Democratic fabrications. He compared these modern complaints to past distractions such as Russia, Ukraine, global warming, impeachment, men in women’s sports, and transgender rights. He stated he would not stand by and let this happen.
According to the president, this hoax began with attacks on data centres. He argued that people realised how wealthy and prestigious these facilities were for their local communities. He claimed that after the crazed attack on data centres largely failed, critics moved straight to attacking AI itself. Trump offered no evidence to support the idea that widespread suspicion of AI and data centres is not organic or sincere. Both Republicans and Democrats have targeted data centres, and New York recently became the first state to halt permits for large projects.
The president’s comments echoed remarks made at a golf tournament last weekend. He said he is open to guardrails but argued that many negative forces are raising the issue when they should not.
On Saturday, Trump said he would cherish the AI industry, help it, and watch over it as it grows. He also announced plans to form an AI Force, similar to the Space Force established during his first term. He added that he will soon announce an AI Czar, noting that only high IQ individuals need apply.
The president did not specify the duties of the AI Force or the Czar. Venture capitalist David Sacks stepped down as Trump’s AI and crypto czar earlier this year to co-chair the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
The debate over AI safety intensified after an AI researcher said he was quitting Anthropic. He stated that leading AI companies earnestly believe it could kill us all by the end of the decade and are gambling with our lives. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei subsequently released a plan to pace the frontier. This plan was seemingly endorsed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Critics of the industry suggested that concerns about an existential threat distract from the technology’s more immediate harms.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called on Trump during the All-In Summit, an event Sacks co-hosts. Huang agreed with the president that the AI backlash is a hoax and insisted that they would not allow a slowdown to happen.
What it means
For people building or using these tools, the message is clear: the industry expects to grow without major regulatory interference. The creation of a dedicated force and a high-level official suggests a move toward protecting the sector rather than overseeing it. This approach prioritises speed and expansion over the safety concerns raised by researchers.
