OpenAI reportedly lowers funding target for new round

OpenAI has reportedly reduced its fundraising target from $30 billion to $20 billion for its latest capital raise. This shift follows earlier reports of a $1.4 trillion valuation ahead of a planned initial public offering. The Financial Times stated that the first close is expected to be even lower than the revised $20 billion goal. A consortium of investors from the United Arab Emirates is leading the round, while a subsequent offering aimed at wealthy individuals might bridge the gap to the final target. The Wall Street Journal noted that the company has secured $11 billion so far, describing the response from some large investors as tepid.

The adjustment reflects tighter conditions in the market for artificial intelligence infrastructure spending. Wall Street investors have become wary of heavy capital expenditure in the sector, leading to a sell-off of technology stocks. Anthropic’s planned initial public offering could face similar headwinds. OpenAI has not commented on the reports.
* The new target is $20 billion instead of the previously reported $30 billion.
* The United Arab Emirates is leading the investment group.
* Large investors have shown a tepid response to the fundraising efforts.
