OpenAI makes its AI coding assistant Codex available on iOS and Android
OpenAI brings its AI coding assistant Codex to the ChatGPT app on iOS and Android. Codex writes and edits code independently, either on a user’s local machine or in a cloud-based development environment. What’s new is the ability to monitor and manage that work from a phone: reviewing results, answering follow-up questions, approving changes, or kicking off new tasks.
The connection between phone and computer runs through an encrypted relay layer. Files and credentials stay on the local machine. For enterprise teams, OpenAI is adding new tools: remote SSH for managed server environments, hooks to customize Codex workflows, and access tokens for automated pipelines.
According to OpenAI, more than four million people already use Codex on a weekly basis. The mobile version is available as a preview across all plans, including the free tier.
