Microsoft is ending support for Copilot on LG and Samsung smart TVs this year after the feature launched nearly two years ago at CES 2025. An on-screen notification appeared on an LG webOS television tested by Zac Bowden for Windows Central, confirming that Microsoft has decided to stop the functionality across all televisions. The message states that Copilot-enabled features will no longer operate on these devices following the strategic shift. Neither Microsoft nor the television manufacturers have issued an official public statement to explain the decision. The change affects the built-in AI assistant access previously marketed as a key selling point for the latest television models.
This move signals a retreat from the initial promise of deep integration between Microsoft’s AI services and consumer television hardware. The feature was intended to allow users to control smart home devices and search for content directly through the television interface without needing a separate phone or tablet. Removing this capability suggests that the technical requirements or user engagement metrics did not meet internal targets for the product lifecycle. The discontinuation limits the utility of the latest televisions for users relying on voice commands for basic tasks.
