It appears .agent and .agi are about to be the hot new domains

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has opened its window for new top-level domains, and artificial intelligence companies are rushing to secure them. Over sixteen hundred applications have been submitted from four hundred eighty-one different entities, with a clear focus on suffixes that define the industry. Ten separate firms, including Meta and OpenAI, have applied for .agent, while seven companies, also including OpenAI, sought .agi. Six applicants, again including OpenAI, attempted to register .asi, likely aiming to align their digital presence with current political terminology.

This surge in registrations signals how deeply the technology has embedded itself into standard internet infrastructure. Companies are treating these extensions as essential identifiers for their automated services and future research directions. The competition highlights a shift where domain names now serve as immediate signals of a business core function rather than just generic web addresses.
