Google’s Gemini app surges to one billion users

Sundar Pichai announced via X that the Gemini app has surpassed one billion monthly active users, marking it as the fourteenth Google product to reach this figure. The growth places the application on a similar trajectory to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which achieved the same milestone in June. While Google integrates the model across Search, Workspace, and Android, this specific count refers only to the standalone app and excludes users accessing AI features through other channels. The company continues to release new tools, including Gemini 3.5 Flash for coding tasks, while reporting that 63 per cent of users interact via voice commands. Daily image generation now exceeds 150 million requests, and the app maintains over 100 million active users on iOS devices. This announcement follows the Q2 2026 earnings call, where daily active users tripled compared to the previous year. Further updates are expected at the upcoming Made by Google event for Pixel hardware.
