For makers and artists wielding the Analog Four, the latest firmware update transforms the four-voice analogue synthesiser into a more dynamic sequencing playground. Elektron has released OS 1.55, a comprehensive overhaul that applies to every model in the range, from the original MKI through the MKII to the Analog Keys.
Sequencing upgrades
The headline feature is the Euclidean Sequencer. This tool deploys two generators to algorithmically distribute pulses across an existing grid. By manipulating a single knob to combine both generators, users can radically alter the rhythmic feel of a pattern without touching the underlying notes.
Efficiency is also boosted by Page Loop. This function allows quick navigation between different sequencer pages while retaining the specific settings for each. Once a sequence is perfected on one page, the user can instantly jump to the next to experiment with further tweaks, then revert effortlessly.
Control All offers a new layer of modulation. By holding a track button and twisting any parameter knob, every active track in the sequence is modulated simultaneously. The Page Loop feature ensures returning to the original saved state is as simple as switching pages.
The arp section has received an expansion to support more complex melodic ideas. Users can now rotate offset notes to generate new patterns while remaining strictly within the chosen key.
Context of the update
This release arrives shortly after Bonnier Capital acquired the Swedish instrument maker in April. In a previous discussion with MusicTech, the company confirmed that this administrative change would not disrupt product development.
“The acquisition does not change our product roadmap,” the brand stated. “If anything, it strengthens our ability to realise our plans quicker and more efficiently than we were previously able. We remain committed to developing exciting new instruments – with some already in the works – and supporting and improving existing machines with fun OS updates and extra features – a core part of our DNA.”
OS 1.55 is currently available for download directly from the Elektron website.
Key takeaways
- OS 1.55 is compatible with all Analog Four variants, including the MKI, MKII, and Analog Keys.
- The new Euclidean Sequencer allows for algorithmic pulse distribution and rapid pattern variation via a single knob.
- Control All enables simultaneous modulation of every track, while Page Loop facilitates easy iteration and state restoration.
- Elektron confirms that its acquisition by Bonnier Capital has accelerated, rather than hindered, its development roadmap.
