Disruptive raises $10B fund to make big bets on at least 10 companies

The Dallas-based investment firm Disruptive announced a $10 billion fund to back at least ten late-stage companies on Tuesday. Checks could reach $1 billion per deal, targeting capital-intensive sectors like artificial intelligence and defence. This marks the firm’s first blind-pool structure, where investors commit capital without knowing the specific portfolio companies. Previously, Disruptive operated through deal-by-deal special purpose vehicles. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that the firm had already secured at least $7.5 billion in commitments. Founded in 2012 by Alex Davis, grandson of oil magnate Marvin Davis, the firm has previously invested in Palantir, Airbnb, and Spotify. Recent investments include chip startup Groq and AI voice-generation company ElevenLabs. Bloomberg noted the firm returned more than $6 billion on roughly $1.9 billion invested so far. The Dallas Business Journal confirmed this is the largest venture fund raised in Texas history.

This move signals a major shift in how large-scale capital is deployed within the Texas venture ecosystem. The blind-pool approach allows Disruptive to commit significant sums quickly without the friction of individual deal sourcing. It also reflects growing confidence in the long-term viability of high-cost AI infrastructure projects. Investors are betting on a strategy that prioritises scale over early-stage discovery. The firm expects this capital to remain deployed for an extended period to support these heavy investments.
