Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity firm based in Lake Mary, Florida, has secured $200 million in funding led by Insight Partners. The company was founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers, five years before ChatGPT launched publicly. Their technology assists enterprises in distinguishing legitimate human users from increasingly sophisticated bot traffic. As criminal VPNs and residential proxy networks proliferate, organisations face a critical blind spot where they can see activity but not the infrastructure behind it. Insight’s Thomas Krane noted this gap allows malicious actors to hide effectively. Detecting malicious traffic has long been a challenge for corporate security teams, but the current volume of automated activity presents a new scale of difficulty.
The significance lies in the shift of internet traffic dynamics. Cloudflare reported in mid-2026 that bots are now more active online than humans are. Matthew Prince, founder and CEO of Cloudflare, stated that agentic traffic grew so rapidly that bots surpassed human traffic for the first time in the Internet’s history. This inversion means standard security filters designed for human-centric web usage are failing against machine-driven campaigns. Spur’s investment validates the need for tools that can identify infrastructure rather than just surface-level behaviour. Without accurate detection, organisations risk operating with incomplete visibility into their own networks.
