Apple is reportedly cutting budgets for its internal AI usage

Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Apple is reducing the daily budget its engineering teams can spend on internal AI usage. The company lowered the cap from $300 to $200 in October, with sources indicating further reductions to $100 per day for some allowances. Outside engineering, daily limits are reportedly being weighed as low as $25. Earlier this year, a wave of tokenmaxxing encouraged staff to maximise AI use in the name of efficiency. That frenzy ended quickly when bills arrived, leading firms to conclude that rationing spend was more fiscally sensible.

This shift highlights a growing disconnect between the high cost of running models and the unclear productivity gains they generate. Companies are moving away from unconstrained access toward strict budget controls to manage expenses. The strategy suggests that vague efficiency promises do not justify unlimited spending on inference.

  • Daily engineering caps dropped from $300 to $200 in October
  • Some allowances face further cuts to $100 per day
  • Non-engineering teams may see limits as low as $25 daily
