Alibaba has released Qwen 3.8, an open-weight artificial intelligence model containing 2.4 trillion parameters. The company claims this version matches frontier models and trails only Fable 5. Access is available immediately through the Token Plan, Qoder, and QoderWork platforms at ten percent of the standard price. Open weights are scheduled for release soon.
The launch appears designed to challenge Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3, which currently controls the open-weight market through its chat app and API. Moonshot recently reported $300 million in annual recurring revenue and plans an initial public offering within six months. Alibaba states Qwen 3.8 should outperform its predecessor in coding, full-stack development, and data analysis. This is also the first multimodal model from the team with more than one trillion parameters, capable of processing images, video, and documents. No benchmark results are currently available.
