A new academic term begins with five fresh features in Google Search designed to assist students with study materials, exam preparation, and organisation.

Interactive visualisations for complex topics
Static text often fails to explain difficult subjects. Search now generates custom tools and simulations to demonstrate concepts in action. A search for “ph scale” returns an interactive visual within the AI Overview to clarify the basics.
Users can request specialised plots, such as mapping citrus fruits onto the scale, or describe a specific tool directly in AI Mode. Generative UI capabilities are now live globally in English for AI Mode and are rolling out for AI Overviews.
Practice quizzes for exam preparation
Students can generate custom practice quizzes for any subject, ranging from science and mathematics to humanities and foreign languages. The feature supports preparation for the ACT, AP, ENEM, GRE, JEE, LSAT, MCAT, NEET, and SAT.
Partnerships with The Princeton Review, Careers360, PhysicsWallah, and Akira Enem ensure the content draws on authoritative sources. A query like “create a quiz with the most commonly tested vocab words to help me prep for the SAT” produces an interactive quiz with explanations for each answer and links to further reading. This service is free in English across AI Overviews and AI Mode worldwide.
Step-by-step guidance with Lens
Lens in Search will soon provide an interactive experience to break down difficult concepts and verify work. Users tap the camera icon in the Google app on Android or iOS to photograph their work.
The AI Overview then offers explanations, identifies errors, and provides coaching. Additional questions can be asked within AI Mode while exploring relevant web sites. This feature launches globally in English over the coming weeks.
Study organisation with Gemini Notebook
Gemini Notebook, formerly known as NotebookLM, integrates with AI Mode to centralise study materials. Users create a notebook for each class or project and upload sources such as slides, syllabi, web articles, and previous AI Mode threads.
Existing notebooks from Gemini Notebook or the Gemini app sync automatically to Search, carrying over sources and instructions across Google products. AI Mode notebooks are rolling out in English to more than 180 countries, with local language support to follow.
Custom document creation
Search can now generate study documents from uploaded files or AI Mode threads. A user might combine a photo of handwritten notes with lecture slides to request a one-pager outlining key concepts.
Custom file creation is available in AI Mode globally in English and will arrive in AI Overviews shortly. Initially, the tool supports documents, slide presentations, spreadsheets, and text files, with additional formats pending.
What it means
These updates shift the focus from simple information retrieval to active assistance. Students can verify their understanding through generated quizzes and visualisations, rather than relying solely on static search results. The integration of file-based tools allows for the synthesis of scattered notes into coherent study materials without manual compilation. Organisation is handled directly within the search interface, reducing the friction of switching between apps.
